No, not in the same way as the usual stories around here. I mean about the word “pussy” itself, and others like it.
You see, the other day I was working on a story and found myself writing a sentence along the lines of, “She felt her vagina clench around her partner’s finger,” and I paused, wondering… Vagina? Does that sound too clinical? Is that a turn-off to people? I’d already used “pussy” plenty of times in the scene and was looking for something to refer specifically to the inside part. So I turned to Google to find out people’s thoughts on the matter, which led me to several threads on the great source of wisdom known as Reddit. Threads like this one, where I learned with some surprise that people have very strong opinions on the subject of genital vocabulary, to the point where the wrong choice of words makes some want to stop reading entirely.
That’s from a romance subreddit, though. Maybe things are different for pure erotica? What would the good folks at Juicy Secrets think of this? So here am I, asking you, our dear readers: What words do you find exciting to refer to the characters’ intimate parts? Which do you hate and never want to see?
From what I gathered, it sounds like a lot of people dislike anything that’s not “pussy” or “cunt”. Pussy is, of course, an old reliable. Cunt is rather stronger, and especially in our little niche, it’s not always appropriate for the character’s age or personality. What about you? Do you prefer if the author sticks to the basics, or do you like some variety?
Do you like the more poetic terms, like talking about a character’s “flower”, or her “pearl” for the clit? Or do these make you cringe?
Do you think anatomical terms like vagina, vulva, or labia (or even just “sex”) have their place in erotica? Or do they feel unsexy and take you out of it?
Do you enjoy a bit of silliness with terms like “pink taco” or “lady garden”?
Should I stop using “folds” for labia? Because I’ve noticed that’s one that people seem to really abhor! 🙂
