A few years ago, we posted something a little different from the sexy stories you know and (hopefully) love: a request for help. Not financial help, mind you – Juicy Secrets will always be free to the world, available to those who crave the goodies we offer. No, in that case, we needed the assistance of a more work-oriented kind. Sadly, the time has come once more where we approach our public to ask for a helping hand.
Since the beginning, Juicy Secrets has relied on the efforts of editors to shape and polish the stories we feature. First, it was the three site founders: Naughty Mommy, Cheryl Taggert and yours truly. Just before Cheryl and Naughty Mommy moved on to pastures new, we had the valuable assistance of site friend PoppaBear. He vanished one day, though there have been rumors that he’s still out there somewhere. So I became the one and only editor and got bogged down in the task almost immediately.
But luck was with us: two hardy souls generously signed on to edit stories for Juicy Secrets: Jacqueline Jillinghoff and BlueJean, both skilled authors in their own right. Their efforts enabled us to keep up the pace, posting new stories and chapters every four or five days as God intended.
That is no longer the case, and hasn’t been for a while. Jacqueline is on indefinite hiatus, needing time to work on her own writing… a most worthy cause, as readers of her stories will surely attest. As for BlueJean, he feels that he’s taken his involvement in erotic fiction far as it can go, and longs to tackle something different. (That said, his final work for our site has just begun to appear.) In both cases, I want to offer sincerest thanks for services rendered. Jacqueline and BlueJean put in a lot of quality work for no pay and a very small portion of glory. Far as I’m concerned, they will always be Friends of Juicy Secrets. Respect.
Still, their absence leaves me, your Boy Pornographer, in a bit of a bind. The stories are beginning to mount up, and at least a couple of the writers are getting antsy, if not downright pissed. Which means that, once again, I’m hanging up a HELP WANTED sign to tell the world that Juicy Secrets is in dire need of a good editor… or more, if we can find them.
That said, let me hasten to add that this is NOT a position that can be filled by just anybody. A love for sexy stories, while admirable, doesn’t come close.
There are two things we’re looking for here.
First, to edit for Juicy Secrets, you must have the skills needed to edit prose. This requires a solid knowledge of the English language and how to shape it. We’re talking about the ability to catch and correct errors in grammar, syntax, tense, punctuation and spelling, and to know when a word is used correctly or not.
But there’s more to the job than fixing mistakes. There’s also reworking prose for improved flow and clarity, which often means rearranging the content of a sentence so it reads better. There’s the ability to trim away bits that are less than necessary – especially in sex scenes, where it’s all too easy for writers to repeat themselves.
Sometimes the editor has to catch logical lapses, like sex positions that don’t make sense, or moments where a character is somehow wearing panties after having stripped naked two paragraphs earlier. (My particular Achilles heel, as many of you already know by now, is keeping names straight.)
Basically, in order to hold your own as a Juicy Secrets editor, it’s best if you are A) a voracious reader, and B) a fairly good writer yourself. Or both. Otherwise, you probably won’t have the chops for the job.
Second, we would need a certain level of commitment to the task. Obviously, you have a life of your own to live – earning a daily crust, sleeping, time spent with the family, household chores, brushing your ferrets, etc. Nonetheless, we would expect you to put in at least a few hours a week, with the understanding that A) one does need to take the occasional vacation, and B) Shit Happens.
And that, dear friends, is what we seek in our quest.
It should also be mentioned that every writer is different, and you are sure to need wildly diverse approaches as to how you work with them. Some authors take a very relaxed attitude to the editor’s role, some want to approve or reject every single change you make, and some are averse to having very much changed at all. I’ve rarely had a genuinely bad editing experience.
What do you get for your effort as a Juicy Secrets editor? Nothing you can pay the rent with, sorry to say… but it’s rich in terms of intangibles. There’s the lovely people you work with, the gratitude they offer, the friends you will make, the satisfaction of a job well done, and the pride you’ll feel at seeing a story you edited up at the site, drawing praise by the bushel basket.
(It shouldn’t have to be mentioned, but I will anyway – please, do NOT apply for this position unless you are serious about the offer. My hours are limited, and any of them spent with time-wasters will subtract from our ability to get new stories and chapters posted to Juicy Secrets. On the other hand, a new editor or two might mean we can post more frequently… and that’s a win-win in any man’s English.)
So there it is. We’re sending out the call… have you got what it takes to wield the red pen? If you think so, drop us a line at
All applicants will get a few small samples of writing to test out their skills. We’ll see what happens from there.
Thanks for reading a post that is utterly bereft of fucking.
Yrs, Danny (JetBoy)
Update: Wow… ask and ye shall receive! I’ve had quite a few applications for the editing post, so this job opening is CLOSED until further notice. Looks like we’ll be getting at least one editor out of this, I’d say. Watch this space!
